Tewksbury Reports Over 450 Active Cases, Remains High Risk

TEWKSBURY, MA — Tewksbury's active case count rose to 457 confirmed and 14 probable cases Friday, a day after the town was again designated high risk by the state.

The town added 363 cases in the last two weeks, nearly a quarter of the confirmed cases the town has reported since the virus arrived in the area.

The positive test rate was 7.3 percent, up from 7.1 last week.

The majority of the state's cities and towns were designated high risk Thursday, for the first time since the state's color codes were introduced. That was 187 communities, up from 158 last week.

In Tewksbury, 5,606 tests were conducted in the last two weeks, for 411 positives. There were 84 average daily cases per 100,000 residents, higher than the state rate of 65.1.

According to the city data released Friday, the bulk of the current surge of cases remain in the community, with just 29 reported at the State Hospital and none at the town's assisted living facilities.

There are 367 confirmed and 11 probable active community cases. The other 61 confirmed and 3 probable active cases are in the "unknown" category.

Ninety-six residents have died, the town reported. There have been over 1,500 total cases.
