Tewksbury Reports Over 700 Confirmed, Probable Coronavirus Cases
The town's active case count rose rapidly in December, reaching 690 confirmed active cases on Dec. 31.
TEWKSBURY, MA — Tewksbury reported over 700 active confirmed and probable coronavirus cases Thursday, the town's largest active caseload on record. The town remained high risk in the latest state report.
Tewksbury added 162 cases from Christmas Eve to New Year's Eve, bringing the active total to 690 confirmed cases and 31 active cases. The positive test rate rose to 7.85 percent with 83.7 average daily cases per 100,000 residents over the last two weeks.
The majority of active cases continue to be "community" cases. There are 38 confirmed cases at the State Hospital, down two from a week prior, and 120 confirmed and probable cases in the "unknown" category.

The active cases make up more than a third of the 1901 cumulative cases the town reports. Ninety-nine residents have died and 978 have recovered from the virus. The outcome is unknown for 103 town cases.
