Women Arraigned On Charges After Allegedly Trying to Run Down Officers

Two Billerica women were arraigned Tuesday in Lowell District Court in connection with an incident on Monday, June 22, in which a vehicle they were in allegedly tried to run into police officers and police vehicles in Tewksbury.

Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan announced Tuesday night that both Hailey Stimpson, 21, of Billerica, and Linda Stimpson, 44, of Billerica, were arraigned Tuesday.

Hailey Stimpson was arraigned on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, (a vehicle), (three counts), resisting arrest, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, a stop sign violation, a red light violation, a marked lanes violation, a passing violation, and possession of a Class A substance, (heroin). Judge Cesar Archilla ordered her held in custody until a 58a hearing onFriday, June 26.

Linda Stimpson was arraigned on charges of resisting arrest and possession of a Class A substance,(heroin). Judge Archilla set bail at $2,000 cash with conditions to include she not use drugs and undergo random screening for drugs. The next scheduled court hearing in her case is Tuesday, July 21.

According to authorities, on Monday, at approximately 12:40 p.m., the Tewksbury Police Department was conducting surveillance at a parking lot near 133 Andover St. and an officer saw suspicious activity inside a vehicle including an individual lifting a hypodermic needle above the window line of the car.

An officer approached the vehicle, spoke to the occupants, (later identified as Hailey and Linda Stimpson), and observed what appeared to be illegal drugs inside. During the conversation Hailey Stimpson put the car in reverse and then proceeded forward, driving the vehicle toward him. The officer moved out of the path of the vehicle to avoid being struck and the vehicle left the lot turning onto North Street.

A chase then ensued involving police vehicles and during which the defendants’ vehicle allegedly swerved to strike a police cruiser and then swerved again at a police officer who was disembarking from his car. The chase ended in a parking lot on Chandler Street where the defendants were arrested.

An infant who was in the vehicle with the defendants was safely transported to the Tewksbury Police Station where the Department of Children and Families became involved.

These charges are allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

This incident is being investigated by the Tewksbury Police Department.
