12 Residents Displaced After Apartment Building Blaze In Wakefield
A three-alarm fire broke out Sunday afternoon at an apartment building in Wakefield.
WAKEFIELD, MA — Twelve residents were displaced when a three-alarm fire broke out an apartment building Sunday afternoon, according to fire officials.
The fire was reported at 12:47 p.m. at a seven-unit apartment building on Wakefield Avenue. Crews arrived and found heavy smoke coming from the rear corner of the building.
The alarm was not sounding and firefighters evacuated residents.

The fire had spread into the walls and extended to the roof.
Other area fire companies including Melrose, Reading, Stoneham, North Reading, Woburn, Saugus, Middleton, and Lynnfield assisted.

The fire was extinguished quickly, limiting damage to the building. No one was injured, according to fire officials. Twelve residents were displaced.
“I want to thank all the mutual aid companies who responded and assisted during this challenging fire," Fire Chief Michael Sullivan said in a statement. "Their teamwork played a crucial role in containing the fire and preventing further damage. This could have been much worse if the fire had not been knocked down so quickly.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
