The Town of Wakefield and Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) are developing a plan to provide safer and enhanced bicycle and pedestrian access in Wakefield. On a larger scale, the Mystic Highlands Greenway project aims to better connect the communities of Wakefield, Stoneham, Malden, Melrose, and Reading through their established walking and cycling network: the Malden River paths, Tri-Community Greenway, Lynn Fells Parkway, Wakefield/Lynnfield Rail Trail, and Lake Quannapowitt.
