Firefighters Battle Brush Fires In Saugus Breakheart Reservation
Crews from multiple area departments responded to the fires on Tuesday night.
SAUGUS, MA — A series of fires drew first responders to the Breakheart Reservation in Saugus on Tuesday night, sending smoke billowing into the sky as flames burned through a large area of the reservation, according to the Massachusetts State Police.
First reports of fire began coming in before 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Saugus firefighters responded, additionally calling for mutual aid from other area departments.
State Police troopers helped clear visitors from the reservation while a State Police helicopter circled overhead scouting for fires and hotspots, State Police said.

The Breakheart Reservation includes portions of Wakefield and Saugus.
WCVB reported on Tuesday night that firefighters had faced five separate fires within the reservation.

Saugus Fire Department Captain Tom Nolan spoke with the station, saying the fires were considered “suspicious.”
Firefighters were expected to be back on scene in Saugus on Wednesday morning, according to WCVB.
These fires come as officials have repeatedly warned of increased fire risks amid severe drought conditions across the region.
Outside of the Breakheart Reservation, crews have noted upticks in the number of brush fires this summer in locations throughout the state.
