WAKEFIELD, MA — Route 128 in Wakefield was shut down late Sunday night after a crash involving at least five vehicles, Wakefield Fire confirmed to Patch Monday morning.

The crash, which included a box truck that rolled over, occurred on the northbound side of the highway at Exit 59 around 11:15 p.m., the department said.

Sunday's crash occurred just days after a Tesla went up in flames in the northbound lanes of I-95 near Exit 59 in Wakefield following a single-vehicle crash Thursday night, the Wakefield Fire Department wrote in a news release.

At the scene, the fire crews found the car wedged onto the guardrail in the right breakdown lane, the department wrote, adding that the 38-year-old driver declined medical attention.

The fire broke out as crews prepared to remove the car from the scene, when "the guardrail pierced the undercarriage, causing the lithium-ion batteries to go into a thermal runaway" and the car to become fully submerged in fire, according to the department.
