Sen. Lewis and Rep. Lipper-Garabedian Announce $935,000 for Transportation Improvements in Wakefield

BOSTON—State Senator Jason Lewis and State Representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian are pleased to announce that Wakefield is receiving $935,000 in Chapter 90 funds from the state to fund local transportation infrastructure, as part of a $300 million allocation to support transportation-related improvements, including road and bridge repairs, that goes directly to municipalities across Massachusetts.

This funding is part of a larger $1.2 billion bond bill that also authorizes:

• $500 million for the bridge and pavement Lifecycle Asset Management Program, which supports communities with non-federally aided roads and bridges projects.
• $200 million for repair and replacement of local culverts and small bridges.
• $185 million for projects that reduce congestion hotspots, including intersection improvements, railroad crossings, and sidewalks.

“I'm very pleased that the state legislature is providing these critical funds to our local communities for transportation improvements,” said Senator Jason Lewis. “I know that this money will be put to good use in Wakefield improving roads, sidewalks, and other infrastructure.”

“This bill will provide critical funding to the municipalities in the 32nd Middlesex for infrastructure upgrades and projects,” said Representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian. “The Chapter 90 program along with the additional program investments will bolster transportation systems, modernize culverts, improve local roadway safety, support sustainability and climate-conscious efforts, and enhance daily life in our community.”

The $300 million Chapter 90 funds going directly to municipalities to support their local infrastructure is a 50% increase from the $200 million Chapter 90 bill passed by the Legislature last year.

After passing in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, this legislation was signed into law by Governor Maura Healey on August 8, 2025.
