Snow Angels Program Back To Help Wakefield Seniors

The program pairs volunteers with area senior citizens to help clear stairs and walkways after snowstorms.

WAKEFIELD, MA — This winter’s first accumulating snow largely spared area residents from major shoveling duties Sunday.

As the region settles in for the depths of New England winter, though, a town program is looking to lend a hand to those in need.

Wakefield’s Snow Angels Shoveling Program is back for another year, organizers announced last week.

The Wakefield Youth Council runs Snow Angels in partnership with the Council on Aging. It relies on volunteers to help support Wakefield’s senior community.

Each volunteer will be connected with one or two seniors who live within walking distance of their home, as noted in a 2022-2023 Snow Angels flier from the Youth Council. The minimum age to volunteer is 13.

Seniors who need help and who don’t have a household member who can help clear snow can reach out to the Council on Aging by email at kburke1@wakefield.ma.us or by phone at 781-245-3312 to coordinate Snow Angels aid.

Prospective youth volunteers can connect by email at YouthCouncil@wakefield.ma.us.

“The more volunteers who sign up, the more help this program will provide to the senior community of Wakefield!” organizers said last week.
