Wakefield Football, Boys Soccer Teams Soar In State Power Rankings
Both teams are among the top 10 teams in their respective MIAA divisions.
WAKEFIELD, MA — The latest round of state MIAA high school sports power rankings brought good news for Wakefield Memorial High School football and boys soccer teams this week, placing both teams among the top ten schools in their respective sports and divisions.
Crucial in deciding playoff qualification and seeding, the strong placements put Wakefield well within the playoff picture for this year’s fall football and boys soccer postseason tournaments.
The boys soccer team landed eighth out of 60 Division II teams in the state’s latest round of power rankings.

Wakefield had a 6-2-6 win-loss-tie record as of Tuesday night, when power rankings were calculated. They’ve since added another win on Wednesday, defeating Stoneham at home by a 2-1 score.
Wakefield hasn’t lost a game in nearly a month, winning three games and tying four others since a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Stoneham on Sept. 22.

The team now has just three regular season matchups left on its schedule before moving toward the postseason.
The Wakefield football team remains undefeated, with a 6-0 record going into a game this week against Watertown.
Wakefield's record on the gridiron has helped secure sixth place out of 31 teams in Division III.
Under MIAA rules, teams in sports other than football can qualify for postseason play by placing within the top 32 teams in their division in power rankings or by securing a winning record.
Power rankings take a number of factors into account beyond wins and losses, including margins of victory and strength of opponents.
The football playoff field is capped at the top 16 teams with at least three wins and seven games played.
Alongside football and boys soccer, Wakefield’s field hockey team was also in a playoff position as of Tuesday rankings, landing 24th out of 51 teams in Division II.
