Wakefield Home Suffers Heavy Damage In 2-Alarm Fire

Firefighters dealt with the blaze Monday morning.

WAKEFIELD, MA — A house was deemed uninhabitable following a fire in Wakefield on Monday morning.

Fire Prevention Officer Captain David Shinney was on his way to do an inspection Monday at 9:54 a.m. when he saw the fire at a Pleasant Street home.

He alerted the department of the fire via radio and companies responded. There was heavy smoke coming from the home's attack, and a second alarm was struck to bring additional assistance at 10:06 a.m.

All residents were able to safely escape the home on their own.

Crews completely extinguished the fire and cleared the scene by 12:30 p.m. There were no reported injuries.

The home suffered heavy damage as a result of the fire and has been declared uninhabitable. The residents were able to find a place to stay.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Stoneham, Melrose, Reading, and North Reading dire departments provided mutual aid. Lynnfield, Woburn, and Saugus fire provided station coverage.

"Fighting this fire was a group effort. The quick and aggressive action of the initial crews who responded will allow for the home to be rebuilt. I would like to thank our mutual aid partners as well for the support and extra personnel they provided," Fire Chief Michael Sullivan said in a statement. "I would also like to commend Captain Shinney for spotting and promptly reporting the fire before the situation became more dangerous to the residents."
