The 2013 MCAS scores for Wakefield were generally comparable to the state average and in most cases, higher. In math, Wakefield students exceeded the state average for proficient or higher, 69-61, and in sci/tech, by a 60-53% margin. In the "needs improvement" category, 17% of Wakefield students scored in this category for English, compared to 23% statewide. The numbers were closer in the math (24-25%) category, and 32-35% in sci/tech.
