Wakefield Police, Departments Across State Honor Dispatchers

Police Departments across Massachusetts have been commemorating National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, which ran from April 12-18 this year.

Police departments from across the state, including Wakefield, took time to talk to and photograph some of their on-duty dispatchers, who work hard every day to answer 911 calls, dispatch police and fire units, and talk to people when they need help the most.

About National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week:

Every year during the second week of April, the telecommunications personnel in the public safety community, are honored. This week-long event, initially set up in 1981 by Patricia Anderson of the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office in California, is a time to celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the public. It is a week that should be set aside so everyone can be made aware of their hard work and dedication. It’s also a way to thank these individuals for their commitment to their profession, which is appreciated by all of APCO International, the public safety communications community, and the citizens they serve.
