UPDATE: All tracks resumed normal service as 9:07 a.m. Tuesday. The MBTA said passengers "may experience minor residual delays due to the earlier police activity."


WAKEFIELD, MA — A police investigation in Wakefield on Tuesday morning has led to commuter rail delays. Boston 25 News reported that a sedan was heavily damaged near the commuter rail tracks on North Avenue at Prospect Street.

It wasn't clear if the car was hit by a passenger train. The MBTA said that travelers on the Haverhill Line could experience delays due to police activity in Wakefield in a tweet at 6:32 a.m.

Later, the MBTA said one track had reopened and normal service was resuming. However, "passengers will continue to experience delays in both direction as trains must operate at reduced speed due to police activity," the MBTA tweeted at 7:18 a.m.

Wakefield firefighters, Wakefield police officers, Transit police officers, and Keolis officials were at the scene of the investigation, Boston 25 News reported.
