Wakefield Residents Teach Writing at Follow Your Art in Melrose

Follow Your Art Community Studios is thrilled to offer two exciting fall writing classes being led by Wakefield residents

Josh Polster, a theatre professor at Emerson College will teach “Writing the 10-Minute Play,” a four-week workshop for playwrights of all levels, starting October 26th.

“Rhythm, character, dialog, tension—these are the building blocks of great storytelling, and short plays are the perfect form for writers of all levels to experiment with and sharpen these skills,” says Polster.

Polster is an Associate Professor of Theatre at Emerson College where he teaches courses in theatre history, dramatic theory, playwriting, and dramaturgy. A recipient of Emerson College’s Distinguished Faculty Award, his books include Stages of Engagement: U.S. Theatre and Performance 1898-1949 and The Routledge Anthology of U.S. Drama. Polster has directed or assistant directed critically acclaimed plays in London and Chicago. He lives in Wakefield with his wife and two children.

Nicole Wade will teach “It’s Your Story: Creative Writing for Middle-Schoolers,” starting October 28th. This four-week workshop gives young people a chance to find their unique voice through a series of fun writing prompts and activities. “Kids have so much to say; this class allows them to play with telling stories in an organic way that they don’t do in school,” says Wade.

Wade, a visual artist and storyteller, who works as a writer in the health care industry, has taught creative writing and poetry at the Boston Center for Adult Education, Arts at the Armory, Girls Inc, Girl Scouts of America, and the YMCA. She moved to Wakefield in 2018.
