Wakefield Unemployment Returns to Same Rate in May of 2012

Wakefield unemployment has returned to the same percentage as this time last year but been had been down in April of this year before leveling out.

On Monday the state released the most recent unemployment numbers for towns and cities in Massachusetts. Wakefield has shown no change in unemployment since this time last year but saw a slight decrease in April. 

Throughout the state, unemployment went up in most regions; specifically unemployment percentages in 16 out of the 22 areas went up. 

Wakefield unemployment shows no change from this time last year, with unemployment at 5.3 percent in both May of 2012 and 2013. And the unemployment rate went down slightly before going back up in May of this year; from 4.9 percent this past April back to 5.3 percent in May.

The seasonally adjusted statewide unemployment went down by a tenth of a percentage point from May of last year, going from 6.7 to 6.6 percent in May of 2013. However, the 6.6 percent unemployment rate last month for the state is a 0.2 increase from 6.4 percent in April.
