Walpole Boys' Lax Bounced from MIAA State Tourney in 8-7 Loss to Foxboro
Walpole ends its season with an 11-8 record after an early exit from the MIAA D2 East Sectional State Tournament.
The Walpole High School boys' lacrosse team got off to a strong start against visiting Foxboro in the preliminary round of the MIAA Division 2 East Sectional State Tournament Tuesday but struggled to maintain that momentum in the second half of an 8-7 season-ending loss.
Walpole (11-8) led the Warriors, 5-3 at halftime but managed just two goals over the final 24 minutes and struggled to win draws and maintain ball possession down the stretch enroute to an early exit from the state tournament.
Down 8-5 with just over eight minutes left in the fourth quarter, Walpole's Chris Frye scored his fifth goal of the game followed by Mark Niden's tally to close the deficit to 8-7 and despite several chances over the final minute, Foxborough's defense tightened up just enough to preserve its preliminary round victory.
