Free YMCA Memberships for First Responders

BOSTON – As the city mourns the deaths and injuries from the Boston Marathon bombings, The YMCA of Greater Boston extends its deepest sympathies to those affected and is offering support.

All of the YMCA of Greater Boston’s 13 branches (including the Waltham Branch) are giving free individual adult Y memberships to emergency service personnel – including police, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians - during the month of May.* The Y will also provide, through the end of 2013, free memberships to victims of the April 15 tragedy to enable them to continue to build strength after their rehabilitation is complete.

“It’s at times like these that our community needs to come together to heal,” said the YMCA of Greater Boston’s CEO Kevin Washington. “We all feel an acute need to extend ourselves in any way we can to offer support. Since the YMCA stands for healthy living and social responsibility, we thought we could uniquely give back to the victims who are learning to find their strength and physical well-being again. In the spirit of the Boston Marathon and the City of Boston, we are pleased to serve those affected by the bombings in their healing process.”
