Waltham man arraigned in superior court on rape charge (walthamtimes.org) — A Waltham resident has pleaded not guilty in Middlesex Superior Court to a rape charge stemming from an alleged January incident at a Main Street address in the city. The case, originating in Waltham District Court, remains active with future hearings scheduled and pretrial proceedings expected to conclude by mid-June.
   

2. Superior court sentencing begins for Waltham man charged in 2020 series of assaults (walthamtimes.org) — Sentencing has begun in Middlesex Superior Court for Waltham resident Clauvens Janvier, linked to a 2020 string of assaults that left the city on edge but caused no deaths. Jurors convicted him on several firearm and assault-related charges, and the judge is weighing prison terms that could reach up to 19 years, with immigration consequences also in play.
   

3. ‘It's hard, for sure': Family honors fallen officer, husband, father with Christmas celebration (bostonherald.com) — Waltham residents are hearing from Officer Paul Tracey’s family as they face another Christmas without the beloved Waltham police officer, killed in a 2023 traffic detail crash on Totten Pond Road. His wife Kristin, also a Waltham officer, is preparing to return to duty while the family leans on community support and awaits a 2026 trial for the accused driver.
   

4. ‘Just as good a chance as anybody': $1.7B Powerball jackpot drawn on Christmas Eve (boston25news.com) — Shoppers at the Waltham Market Basket were stocking up on groceries and Powerball tickets as the $1.7 billion Christmas Eve jackpot was drawn. Residents shared what a win could mean for paying off homes, helping family, and coping with high living costs, while nearby stores also reported surging ticket sales.
