Buyer Beware: Pre-Blast Inspection Mailers Are Not City-Sponsored

Inspections will be provided free of charge to residents near the blast area, the city said.

WALTHAM, MA — Residents within 500 feet of the new high school construction site in Waltham will not need to pay for inspections before blasting is completed and should disregard unsolicited letters selling inspection services, the city announced.

In a news release, the city said several residents have received a letters from companies trying to sell inspection services, claiming certain documentation from inspections can help residents more easily file claims with insurance companies should damage occur during blasting.

While residents are not discouraged from obtaining inspections on their own, the city said no-cost inspections will be provided to all residents within 500 feet of the blasting site.

Further, as of Monday, a pre-blast inspection company had not been chosen, nor had the blasting plan been finalized.

While the mailers are not believed to be illegitimate, they are not sponsored by nor associated with the City of Waltham or the high school construction project, the city said.
