Girl On Bike Hit By Car In Waltham, Taken To Hospital
Monday morning a young girl was riding her bike when she was hit by a car.

WALTHAM, MA — A little girl was rushed to the hospital this morning after she was hit by a car while riding her bike along Ash Street, according to Waltham officials. It was not immediately clear how the girl is doing.
City officials say that area is known to be an issue.
"This is very unfortunate," said Ward 8 City Councilor Cathyann Harris. "There has been challenges at the intersection of Lowell and Ash Street."

Harris said this morning she also got an email from a resident who told her that she and her husband had to yell at a different driver around 8 a.m. as two little girls were walking across the Parmenter Road near Whittemore Elementary. In that instance the pickup truck was able to slam on his brakes and the girls were safe, said Harris.
But the two incidents highlight a need for something to be done, she said.

Harris said she's tried in the past to get some sort of flashing light so drivers understand they should go slow and be aware of pedestrians and bikers. Based on neighborhood feedback and this most recent crash she said she plans to petition the traffic commission for a speed study on Lowell Street at the next Wednesday meeting.
"There's a lot of momentum that you have when you turn on to Ash Street, you have speed going into that turn," said Harris. "There have been near misses.... we need a better understanding of calming measures."
Police did not immediately respond to request for information about whether the driver was cited.
