One Injured When Manhole Cover Strikes Vehicle In Waltham
Smoke was seen rising from the manhole before its cover popped off and struck a vehicle, a fire department spokesperson said.

WALTHAM, MA — Police, fire and EMS workers in Waltham on Wednesday responded to a report of a manhole explosion at 81 Wyman Street.
Waltham Fire Department's Lieutenant Scott Perry told Patch by phone that the explosion was reported at 1:08 p.m. by a caller stating a manhole was smoking and that the metal cover over the hole had popped off and struck a vehicle.
Multiple news outlets report one person was injured when the manhole struck the car, a Toyota Prius. Medics were dispatched to the scene along with a fire command vehicle, a fire engine and police officers.

MassDOT was alerted to the incident and dispatched an electrician to the location, Perry said.
