Verdict Issued For Bulger-Related Murder of Waltham Resident

A federal jury has found prosecutors did not prove James “Whitey” Bulger has  murdered of a Waltham resident, according to various Boston media outlets.

The jury handed down the verdict on Monday after about 32 hours of deliberations.

Bulger, a notorious gangster who ran the Winter Hill Gang in South Boston for years, was found "not proven" of the murder of James Sousa. However, John Martarano, a confessed murderer of 20 people, killed Sousa during a botched robbery attempt, according to WCVB-TV.

Also, the jury found prosecutors had proven Bulger forced the late Stephen Rakes to sell his South Boston liquor store to Bulger.

Rakes was found dead in July after he was allegedly poisoned by William Camuti, of Sudbury. Camuti allegedly poisoned Rakes during a meeting at a McDonald’s in Waltham. Camuti 69, is facing attempted murder charges and remains at Bridgewater State Hospital.
