Waltham Man Arrested for Assaulting Watertown Police, Drug Possession

The suspect would not cooperate when he was stopped by Watertown Police.

A Waltham man faces charges of assaulting police officers after he was pulled over on Aug. 1 in Watertown.

Barkev Momjian, 21, of Waltham is charged with two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, possession of a class A drug, failing to stop and carrying a dangerous weapon, according to Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn.

A Watertown Police officer patrolling on Aug. 1 Elm Street spotted a black Ford pickup truck run a stop sign at Elm and Arsenal streets. The officer stopped the driver, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn.

"The officer observed the operator moving around attempting to hide something under the seat," Lawn said. "The officer ordered the driver out of the vehicle and he became, immediately, confrontational." 

While police were talking with the driver, Momjian took a knife out of his pocket, Lawn said.

"Officers attempted to cuff (Momjian) and he began resisting, yelling and swearing at them," Lawn said. 

When they placed Momjian under arrest, they found a clear plastic bag filled with what police believe is heroin, Lawn said.
