Waltham To Pilot Pedestrian Plaza On Moody Street

Every Saturday during the month of October, a few blocks of Moody Street will transform into a pedestrian shopping district.

Organizers said this comes in response to a "huge demand" for pedestrian-friendly shopping in the city.

WALTHAM, MA — Moody Street is about to turn into a pedestrian plaza. A city-sponsored pilot will create a car-free Fall marketplace in an effort to bring more shoppers to the business district.

Every Saturday in October the city will shut down part of Moody Street - from Pine to Taylor streets - to car traffic and open the street to sidewalk sales, the Waltham Farmers' Market, music and "other features." The "Krazy Daze" will last from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. And although the car-free zone will just be three blocks, the entire street is invited to participate in the sidewalk sale event.

Organizers said this comes in response to a "huge demand" for pedestrian-friendly shopping in the city.

"We are working with the City of Waltham to turn part of Moody Street into a pedestrian shopping plaza," said the Downtown Waltham Partnership in an announcement.

During the events, traffic will be detoured onto Crescent Street.

"October's four-Saturday experiment will help us see whether an expanded pedestrian plaza is right for Moody Street in the future," according to the partnership.
