Waltham Residents Rally, Demand Release Of Mueller Report

Activists and residents want to show elected officials they, too, want to see the entire Mueller Report.

WALTHAM, MA — Dozens of people from Waltham and beyond rallied on Waltham Common Thursday night in solidarity with hundreds of other groups across the country. It's an effort to call on the U.S. Attorney General to release the entire "Mueller Report."

"We don't have a good way to make our opinions known since it's not an election year, but this demonstration helps get across the message that the public wants to see this report," said Diana Young of Waltham.

“We call on Representatives Katherine Clark, Joe Kennedy III, and all other members of the United States House of Representatives to do everything in their power to make Mueller’s findings public,” said Waltham resident and local host Emily Saperia in a statement. “Americans deserve full and truthful answers to ensure the security and sanctity of our election system is never compromised again.”

The rally comes after news came out that the House Judiciary Committee voted to authorize a subpoena compelling Attorney General William Barr to hand over special counsel Robert Mueller's full — and unredacted — report, after he missed an April 2 deadline from Congress to do so.

The deadline was set by six House Committee Chairs after Barr released a four-page summary of the more than 300-page report, which outlines the findings of a two-year investigation led by the special counsel into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

"We've been hearing for ages that this report was done very professionally and apolitical. And just like that it's completely turned around and it's political, that's why I'm here," said Beverly Paoli who came from Newton to make her voice heard, she said.

Kate Kavanaugh came from Concord to join.

"We can't vote right now, but at least we can be vocal and let our government know what's important," she said. "It's about defending democracy."

The Waltham rally is part of a #ReleaseTheReport Day of Action. Rallies are expected to pop up in towns and cities across the country. This rally is a sequel to the Nobody is Above the Law effort, which also saw a regional rally in Waltham this past November.

Saperia and Progressive Waltham are behind the rally on the Common.

"Our rally is one of hundreds across the country, part of a National #ReleaseTheReport Day of Action. Thousands of Americans (and beyond) will join us. Every voice counts," said Saperia in an email to Patch.
