Waltham Uber Driver Accused Of Raping Woman, Held On $100K Bail

The judge set the bail on the Waltham Uber driver accused of raping a woman near Boston's Hatch Shell at $100,000.

BOSTON — The Waltham Uber driver accused of raping a woman near the Hatch Shell in Boston Saturday was held on $100,000 after pleading not guilty at his arraignment in Boston Monday.

Daudah Mayanja, 37, of Waltham was charged with two counts of rape after police received a report of a sexual assault on Storrow Drive near the Hatch Shell in Boston. The assault was reported around 1:15 a.m. Saturday.

Authorities have collected potential evidence for a forensic analysis, police said. The woman who reported the assault was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

"What’s been reported is horrible and something no one should ever go through. We stand ready to support law enforcement with their investigation," a spokesperson from Uber said in an statement.

Mayanja's bail was originally set at $25,000 Saturday.
