UPDATED: Bomb Threat Proves a False Alarm at Wayland Middle

A Tuesday morning threat was similar to those received by a number of school districts across the state in recent weeks.

WAYLAND, MA - A bomb threat called in to Wayland Middle School Tuesday morning was a hoax similar to those that have plagued districts across the state throughout the past few weeks.

Wayland Police Chief Robert Irving said in a statement that Wayland Middle School received a call at about 10 a.m. Tuesday stating there was a bomb at the school. Police and fire officials immediately responded while the school was placed under a brief “shelter in place.”

“Based on what was said during the call, the decision was made that an evacuation would not be the best course of action,” the chief said, adding that the students assembled in the gym after the building was swept. “The determination was made based on the wording of this and similar threats made around the state recently, that sheltering in a secured area of the school was appropriate.”
