Nearly 40 Percent of Wayland Voters Headed to the Polls Tuesday

Wayland voters overall aligned with the majority of the state Tuesday, overwhelmingly putting their support behind Democratic Senate candidate Edward Markey.
In Wayland, the unofficial results show that Markey received 2,311 votes across the town's precincts, while Republican Gabriel Gomez secured 1,303.
The third party candidate, Richard Heos, secured just eight votes across Wayland.

Of the 3,625Â total votes cast in the special U.S. senate election, Markey carried 63.8 percent of the vote in Wayland.
Precinct 4 had the greatest number of voters overallshow up at the polls, with a total of 980 ballots cast (567 for Markey, 410 for Gomez and 2 for write-in candidates). Precinct 4 also featured the highest number of votes cast for Gomez.

Precinct 1 had the greatest number of votes cast for Markey at 620.
In all, 39 percent of Wayland's 9,262 registered voters headed to the polls Tuesday. That turnout is higher than the turnout for all but one of Wayland's five most recent elections. Only the 2012 presidential election attracted more voters at 89.5 percent.
