Sparks Will Fly, A Bull Will Buck and Pie Will Disappear Saturday Night

Wayland's 375th Anniversary Commemoration Committee has gone all out for Saturday's circus and carnival celebration, but the committee members are just as excited about what's coming that night.

Saturday , traditional fair food, historical tours, wigwam building and so much more to Wayland.

But Saturday night is promising sparks.

As the festivities of the circus and carnival draw to a close, the party will transition to 43 Old Connecticut Path where a truly one-of-a-kind event will conclude the day's celebration.

But first, the whirl of the barn dance promises to bring young and old to the dance floor.

According to 375th Anniversary Committee member Deborah Seidman, the committee has gone "all out" for this portion of the day's festivities just like it did for the circus and carnival.

Square dance caller Tony Parkes will guide partners around the floor, a mechanical bull will do its best to buck the brave guests who climb aboard and a blueberry pie eating contest will make for a colorful experience for kids.

As darkness falls, guests will venture to a ceremonial bonfire where artists Andy Moerlein and Donna Dodson, known as the Mythmakers, will have created a special sculpture. The sculpture, according to the 375h Anniversary website, will symbolize "the North American Leopard Frog, once plentiful throughout Wayland and the Sudbury River Valley during 1600-1800 and now considered to be endangered."

The suggested donation at the door of the barn dance is $10.

Seidman said that the committee's goal is to spend the next year presenting a variety of events for Wayland's 375th commemoration celebration and to put the donations of guests attending those events to good use.

"We really want to donate something back to the town," Seidman said, adding that what that will be remains to be seen.
