Wayland Lifeguards Honored for Lifesaving Work

The lifeguards were at state-owned pools over the summer.

Gov. Deval Patrick has honored three Wayland lifeguards for their lifesaving work at state-owned pools over the summer, according to the governor's office.

“These lifeguards’ outstanding efforts to keep our people safe deserve special recognition,” Gov. Patrick told a large group of lifeguards during a Jan. 7 ceremony at the State House. “I hope today serves as a fitting expression of how thankful we are for the work lifeguards do to keep our beaches and pools safe.”

Among the group of lifeguards honored were: Elena Drews, Eleanor Moore and Thomas Drews, all from Wayland.

While the press release does not specify their actions, the lifeguards performed lifesaving acts such as resuscitation and saving a man who had suffered a spinal injury, according to the press release.
