Wayland Resident Completes 'Fight for Air' Climb

The American Lung Association fundraiser had participants racing up 82 flights of stairs in Boston.

WAYLAND, MA - It took Edward Nicholas just more than 10 minutes to race up 82 flights of stairs on Feb. 6 all for a good cause.

Nicholas, a firefighter with the Lincoln Fire Department, competed in the American Lung Association’s “Fight for Air” fundraiser in at One Boston Place. He ran 12 stories, which consisted of 82 flights and 789 stairs wearing his full firefighting gear. The 23-year-old’s official time was 10 minutes, 30 seconds.

He placed 86th out of more than 500 firefighter participants, according to race results.

The American Lung Association event serves as a fundraiser to ”make a positive impact in the lives of those affected by lung disease,” according to the event’s website.
