UPDATE, Saturday, Feb. 6 at 9:30 a.m. -- The number of power outages in Wayland rose overnight, according to the Eversource outage map.

As of 9:30 a.m., 939 customers (17 percent of those served) were without power. According to Wayland Police Chief Robert Irving, Eversource has set a goal of midnight Saturday to have the town fully restored. The chief reiterated that residents should NOT call Wayland dispatch for updates on their electrical service.

Irving also said that there are a number of road closures remaining Saturday morning. Check out the map below for those locations. Route 30 at Lakeview Cemetery as well as Pemberton Road are expected to reopen by noon. There is no estimate for the other blocked roads noted on the map.

The community room at the Public Safety Building remains open for residents to charge phones and stay warm.

Irving also warned residents that the heavy snow has brought down multiple large limbs and urged parents to keep their children from playing under snow-laden trees. A Canton 6-year-old died Friday after a limb fell on her.

UPDATE Friday, Feb. 5 at 11 p.m. -- Eversource reported only 12 percent of Wayland, 649 customers, remained without power at 11 p.m. Friday.

That number is down from the nearly 4,200 customers that were without electricity at about 2 p.m. Friday.

Multiple roads have also reopened. According to the Wayland Joint Communications Center, only Route 30 at Pemberton Road remained closed as of 11 p.m.

UPDATED Friday, Feb. 5 at 1:30 p.m.

The winter storm brought down trees throughout Wayland, forcing the closure of multiple roads, leaving a couple thousand residents without power and necessitating the relocation of students from the Loker School.

Wayland Police Chief Robert Irving provided the following update as of 1:30 p.m.

Road Closures:

  • Check out the embedded map; it will be updated as road closures are added or debris is cleared. There are also a number of traffic lights out, which are also noted on the map. If you know of other trees down or roads blocked, email wayland@patch.com.

School Dismissal:

  • Wayland Public Schools will dismiss at normal times Friday afternoon EXCEPT for Loker students who were relocated to Wayland High School due to a power outage. Parents can begin picking up their Loker students 90 minutes prior to the normal dismissal time.

Power Outages:

  • As of 2:55 p.m., Eversource is reporting 4,191 customers in Wayland (76 percent) are without power.
  • “Please Do Not Contact Wayland Dispatch Regarding Power Outages,” Irving asked. “The police department does not know when power will be back and the calls flooding dispatch are hampering operations.”

Warming/Charging Station

  • The Community Room at the Wayland Public Safety Building is open for residents to come and charge phones or keep warm.

Public Safety

  • Wayland police have responded to numerous motor vehicle crashes, and Irving asks that residents stay off the roads if at all possible.
  • Avoid downed wires as they may be live.
