Why:
Here’s the big one. The Warrant for the meeting includes just three articles. Here are the basics:
- Article 1: Withdrawal of the Town of Wayland from the Minuteman Regional Vocational School District.
The motion under this article asks that voters affirm Wayland’s withdrawal from the Minuteman Regional School district effective July 1, 2017 and contingent upon approval by other current members of the district and the state commissioner of education. The withdrawal also depends upon the adoption of amendments to the existing agreement of the Minuteman Regional Vocational School District, which is addressed in Article 2 of Wayland’s Special Town Meeting Warrant.
- Article 2: Amendments to the Regional School District Agreement of the Minuteman Regional Vocational School District.
- The Sudbury Board of Selectmen published an FAQ that was then edited by Wayland Board of Selectmen Chair Lea Anderson.
- The Minuteman Regional School District provided an FAQ on the agreement revisions.
- Additional documentation related to this article is available on the Town of Wayland website.
A set of amendments to the existing agreement between member towns and the Minuteman Regional Vocational School District need to be approved by the voters of those towns. The amendments have already been approved by the regional school committee and been submitted to the various boards of selectmen. These amendments must pass in order for Wayland (and other towns seeking to withdrawal) to be able to withdraw from the district.
- Article 3: Facilitate Improving Safety Of Town Roads
The motion under this petitioner’s article has not been published; however, the text of the article outlines a number of requests including applying to change the speed limit on a section of Stonebridge Road, adding new speed limit signs and improving Oak Hill Road so school buses can travel it safely. Petitioners comments, and those of the Wayland Finance Committee, are available in the warrant.
