2019 Boston Marathon: Wellesley Road Closures, Information

Here's the road closures, parking rules, and train information you'll need to prepare for the Wellesley portion of the Boston Marathon.

WELLESLEY, MA – The Boston Marathon is nearly upon us, and the 26.2-mile route takes runners through Wellesley on their way to the finish line on Boylston Street in Boston. There will be several road closures and parking restrictions leading up to and during the race, as well as security measures to keep in mind.

The Wellesley portion of the race starts on Central Street near Wellesley College and goes through the famous Wellesley Scream Tunnel and Wellesley Square before continuing down Washington Street into Lower Falls. The runners will depart town at the Newton Line

Here's what you need to know about Monday's race:

Road closures start between 8:15 and 8:30 a.m. and remain closed until the end of the race, with road openings expected to begin at 3 p.m.

Central Street will be closed from the Natick line to Grove Street. Washington Street will be closed from Grove Street to the Newton line. There will be no traffic allowed across the race route once the road is closed.

Vehicles parked in parking lots along the route will not be allowed to leave until the road is open. You will not be able to cross the race route with a vehicle once the road closures start.

No Parking

Central Street, from Weston Road to Grove Street, and Washington Street, from Grove Street to Wellesley Avenue will have barricades in place on April 15, starting at 9 p.m. No parking will be allowed on these sections of Washington Street and Central Street until the race has concluded the next day.

Some additional temporary no parking zones include:

  • Curve Street on the west side from Linden to Cres.
  • Crest Road on the west side from Linden to Curve
  • Howe Street on the south side from Weston to Curve
  • Weston Road on the east side from Linden to Turner
  • Central Street from Weston to Grove
  • Linden Street from Weston Road to Crest Road on both sides of the road
  • Wellesley Ave from Washington to Atwood
  • Woodlawn Ave, near the DPW entrance
  • Garden Road one side to Colburn Road
  • Colburn Road one side
  • Chestnut Street one side
  • Washington Street on both sides from Grove to the Newton line
  • River Street
  • Wareland Road
  • Brook Street from Wellesley Ave to Amherst Road.

Inbound

  • Wellesley Square: 10:38 a.m., 11:08 a.m., 12:30 p.m.
  • Wellesley Hills: 10:43 a.m., 11:13 a.m., 12:34 p.m.
  • Wellesley Farms: 10:47 a.m., 11:17 a.m., 12:38 p.m.

Outbound

  • Wellesley Farms: 9:35 a.m., 11:55 a.m.
  • Wellesley Hills: 9:38 a.m., 11:58 a.m.
  • Wellesley Square: 9:41 a.m., 12:01 p.m.
