Middlesex Savings Opens New Branch at 278 Washington St.

Brian Sullivan, a lifelong resident of Wellesley and son of the town’s the beloved and recently deceased police patrolman Patrick Sullivan, started his new assignment as manager of Middlesex Savings bank’s new branch at 278 Washington St. in Wellesley Hills June 18.

The new facility, a cozy, 2,215-square-foot office diagonally across the street from the Wellesley Clock Tower, replaces the larger, 3,600-square-foot location at 200 Linden St. A distinctive feature of the branch is the “Wellesley Wall,” a collage of iconic town scenes — the Town Hall, Clock Tower, Library, Wellesley College and others by noted photographer Warren Jagger — behind the branch’s teller line.

Sullivan, who has worked for Middlesex since 2003, was recently brought back to Wellesley after two years as manager of the Middlesex office in Medfield.

“It’s great to be back. I consider myself lucky to be working in the town where I live and grew up. Not everybody gets to do that,” said Sullivan.

Brian is one of patrolman Patrick Sullivan’s five children. The elder Sullivan passed away in April 2012. He served on the Wellesley police force from 1955 to 1986 after returning from Air Force service in Korea. Brian’s brother Gerard and nephew Gerard Jr. are both Wellesley firefighters. His twin brother Kevin is an electrician at Wellesley College.

The bank plans to donate $100 to the Wellesley Police Relief Fund in Officer Sullivan’s memory for every new checking account opened at the branch between June 18 and July 13. There will be a minimum of $5,000 given to the fund from the bank’s corporate giving department.

New checking account customers will also receive a credit of $100 to their accounts. Additionally, the bank will be giving away one $250 gift certificate each week to Wellesley’s Blue Ginger restaurant, and is featuring free coffee and pastries from its new neighbor, Quebrada Bakery.

In addition to Brian Sullivan, the branch staff includes assistant manager Megan Nye and tellers Kelsey Burns and Katie Hunt.
