Boston Marathon 2015 Runner Profile: Katie Buteau, of Wellesley

Katie, who suffered two strokes at the age of 25, is running on the team of three-time Super Bowl winner and Patriots star Tedy Bruschi.

Katie Buteau, of Wellesley, will be running the 2015 Boston Marathon.

In September 2013, then-25-year-old Buteau suffered a right vertebral artery dissection while getting her hair shampooed at the hair salon. The injury to the artery caused two blood clots to subsequently break off and travel to her brain causing her to suffer two separate strokes. Buteau survived with no permanent neurological impairment.

Katie will be running as a member of Tedy’s Team, led by former New England Patriots linebacker and triple Super Bowl ring-holder Tedy Bruschi.

“Completing the Boston Marathon means so many different things to me, but on Marathon Monday, I’m most looking forward to trusting my body again,” Buteau said for a recent press release. “I feel that if I can run a marathon, I don’t have to be scared that my body will let me down anymore.”

Tedy suffered a stroke at the age of 31 in 2005. Tedy’s Team has raised over $3 million for stroke research and educational programs.
