Driver Killed In Wellesley Route 9 SUV Crash Into Utility Pole: Police

Wellesley police said the driver was found unresponsive after the morning commute crash and pronounced dead at Newton Wellesley Hospital.

WELLESLEY, MA — An SUV driver was killed in a single-vehicle crash into a utility pole and tree that caused Route 9 westbound in Wellesley to be closed for most of the Wednesday morning commute, police said.

Wellesley police said emergency services responded to the crash near Cedar Street at about 7 a.m. and found the SUV had struck a utility pole before striking a tree.

"The driver of the vehicle was found to be unconscious and unresponsive," police said. "There was no one else in the vehicle, and it appears as if there were no other vehicles involved in the crash."

The victim was taken to Newton Wellesley Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:10 a.m.

The victim's name has not yet been released pending family notifications.

Wellesley Municipal Light Plant had several crews on the scene securing the live power lines and replacing the utility pole.
