Ina Petronella Theodora Coppoolse Gerzon, 96, of Wellesley, formerly of Lincoln and Concord, passed away Oct. 15, 2013.
Ina Gerzon was born in the Netherlands in 1917. She was one of 10 children and spent most of her early years in Jakarta, Indonesia where her father was the headmaster of a Dutch school. In her teens, Ina returned to Holland to attend boarding school and then Teacher¹s College.
During World War II, she taught school on the island of Curacao where she met and married Koert Gerzon, then an officer in the Dutch Army. Together they travelled to the United States where Koert completed his Ph.D. in Chemistry. They moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where Ina raised her family and taught elementary school.
Ina taught second grade as well as French for many years. She greatly enjoyed her students and her teaching. She was active in her church and the League of Women Voters. She also loved the outdoors, gardens, flowers, tall trees, walking, swimming and many other activities.
Ina is survived by her children Robert Gerzon and his wife Christine Gerzon, Mark Gerzon and his wife Melissa Michaels, Jeannette Gerzon and Paul Gerzon; her 16 grandchildren; and her 11 great-grandchildren.
