Louis Dominic Grignaffini, of Wellesley, died Oct. 23, 2013 after a battle with aggressive prostate cancer.
Born in Boston March 6, 1943, Lou was raised by Louis A. Grignaffini and Margaret Pini Grignaffini.
Upon graduation of Wellesley High School 1961, Lou and his brother C. Joseph joined their father in his home construction company, thus creating L.Grignaffini and Son’s Construction, where they built many homes and commercial buildings in Wellesley and surrounding communities. Lou was not only a trusted contractor but a loyal tradesman who established long lasting business relationships and friendships. Beyond that Lou was a nurturing influence to youth and young business owners participating in guidance and assistance in anyway needed. He was also president of the Wellesley High School Math Club and an active member of the Gridiron Club during his sons’ athletic careers.
Lou was a cornerstone of the Wellesley Community Center. He was instrumental in realizing the Wellesley Jaycee’s vision of a social services campus, using private funds to develop the property at 219 Washington St., one of the most active civic organizations in the town. As a long term member of the board of directors he played a vital role in supporting this self-sustaining, non-profit institution since 1977. Without his energy, commitment and expertise, The Wellesley Community Center might not have ever existed.
