Over 100 Wellesley Students Win Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

Between the High School, Middle School and Dana Hall, more than 100 students received awards in the 2013 Boston Globe Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

Wellesley was certainly well-represented in this year's Boston Globe Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, with over 110 students bringing in awards this time around.

At Wellesley High School, 43 students took home 51 awards, including 13 Gold Key Awards, 13 Silver Key Awards and 16 Honorable Mentions, according to a spreadsheet released on the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards website, and a story on Boston.com's YourTown Wellesley

Wellesley Middle School 46 students took home a total of 50 awards, including 11 Gold Key Awards, 18 Silver Key Awards and 21 Honorable Mentions.

In addition to the High School and Middle School, about 23 awards went toDana Hall, including six Gold Key, three silver, and 14 Honorable Mentions, according to information released by the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

According to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards website, the awards are broken up in to multiple regions across the country. Submissions are judged by a panel of jurors made up of artists, writers, educators and creative professionals.

The pieces of art are on display at the State Transportation Building, 10 Park Plaza in Boston, until April 19. The exhibit is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. It is closed on Sundays.

The Gold Key awards are the highest regional award, representing approximately 7-10 percent of all regional submissions. Gold Key Awards are also considered for national-level recognition.

Silver Key awards represent 10-15 percent of all regional submissions and Honorable Mentions represent approximately 15-20 percent of all regional submissions, the website says.
