Plan Aims For More Affordable Housing In Wellesley
Wellesley is hoping they can get to the state's 10 percent threshold for affordable housing.

WELLESLEY, MA — Wellesley currently has 575 affordable housing units and needs more than 900 to get to the mandated state minimum.
With 6.33 percent of the town's housing stock deemed affordable, the town has drafted a plan to get to the 10 percent minimum. The town is accepting public comments through Aug. 31, with a planning board review to follow Sept. 4 and a selectmen review Sept. 11.
A joint meeting is scheduled between the selectmen, planning board, and the town's housing development corporation to adopt the plan is scheduled for Sept. 24. Once the plan is adopted it must be certified by the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development, according to a statement on the town's website.

This month the town's zoning board has received five permit applications for Chapter 40B developments that allow developers to obtain zoning waivers if a community is under the 10 percent threshold, according to the Boston Globe.
The Housing Production Plan identifies the housing needs of a community and the strategies it will use to make progress in facilitating the development of affordable housing.
