An armed robbery escalated into a much larger incident Sunday, involving a SWAT team and evacuations, police said.

WELLESLEY, MA — Two people were arrested Sunday in Wellesley after an armed robbery escalated into an incident requiring evacuations and a SWAT team, according to police.

Law enforcement received a 911 call around 3:15 p.m. from a male who told authorities he had stayed overnight at an apartment on Barton Road where a bag of medication was taken from his suitcase, and that when he tried to get it back a man pointed a gun at him and told him to leave, police said.

The occupants of the apartment looked out the windows at responding officers but did not answer the phone for authorities, causing police to evacuate adjacent units and close the road, according to law enforcement.
