Town Meeting Approves $1 Million Hunnewell Feasibility Study

The study will address whether the building should be renovated or if a new building should be put in its place

WELLESLEY, MA — About $1 million will be spent to determine the future of the Hunnewell School.

Town Meeting last week approved the appropriation for the feasibility study, which will address whether the building should be renovated or if a new building should be put in its place. The funding votes were approved on a standing vote, according to the Wellesley Townsman.

The building, originally built in 1938, is no longer suited for modern education, school officials said.

If a new school is built, the study will look at the posibility of using a "swing space" for students and teachers during construction.

Current projections have a new school opening anywhere between 2023 and 2026, depending on the schedule and could cost between $55 million to $101.5 million.
