Vehicle Theft, Missing Kid: Wellesley Police Log

The following is from the Wellesley Police Log. Arrests and charges mentioned don't imply conviction.

May 16

10:44 a.m. - Officer Kane spoke with a woman regarding suspicious phone calls that had been received by an individual stating they were from FedEx and were calling to schedule a time to deliver a package. The caller asked when the reporting party would be home, so she could deliver the package. She had not previously received scheduling phone calls for package deliveries in the past and called a family member to discuss the call. While she was speaking with the family member they received a call from the same phone number with the caller asking for that family member and when he confirmed it was him that answered the phone the caller hung up. The reporting party stated that another family member had been the victim of identity theft the previous year, and they felt this was possibly related. Officer Kane attempted to call the phone number that showed on the caller ID, but it is not a functioning number. Officer Kane is investigating.

12:37 p.m. - Officer Joseph was dispatched to the Hardy School for a report of a child that had run away from his mother. The child was located a few minutes later and reunited with his mother.

2:30 pm. - Officer Joseph spoke with a male reporting party about a family member who had taken his motor vehicle without his authorization over a week ago and has not returned the vehicle and is not returning phone calls. A stolen motor vehicle report was entered into the state NCIC system for the vehicle.

On May 11 at 11:47 a.m., Officer Rosenberg was contacted by a teacher from the Wellesley Middle School regarding a bicycle that was found near the Sprague Field. He advised the teacher to bring the bicycle to the school office to see if a student reported their bicycle as missing. On May 17, nobody had claimed the bicycle so it was transported to the police station to be held as lost property.

May 19

8:00 p.m. - Officer Lindelof spoke to a woman regarding a stolen motor vehicle. The reporting party stated that the vehicle was last seen in her garage on May 6 and she does not frequently use that vehicle. She indicated it would not have been used by another family member and she had checked with them and they had not loaned the vehicle to anyone. Officer Lindelof queried the vehicle’s registration number which showed that the Needham Police Department had also queried the vehicle’s registration number on three occasions. He contacted the Needham Police Department and learned the vehicle had been in a parking lot in their town for several days and it was towed. Officer Lindelof spoke with the reporting party on May 20 at which time she reported that she had driven the vehicle on May 6 and had gotten a ride home from a friend and forgotten she had taken that vehicle as she does not drive it often.


May 20

4:51 p.m. - Officers were dispatched to the area of Woodland Road for a report of a missing 3-year-old child. The reporting party stated it had been several minutes since she last saw the child. The child was located a few minutes later inside the residence.

9:30 p.m. - Officer DiCenso was on patrol on Worcester Street near Washington Street when she observed a Mercedes sedan traveling east veer into the breakdown lane on multiple occasions. She stopped the vehicle on Worcester Street near Mulherin Lane and spoke with the operator 33-year-old Claudio Dias of Norwood. Dias indicated he did not have a driver’s license. A query of his information revealed there were three active warrants issued by Hingham District Court and Stoughton District Court for motor vehicle related offenses. He was arrested on the warrants.
