Wellesley Landscapers Have Non-Explosive Marathon Monday

Landscapers working at a Falmouth Road home discover an inert hand grenade this morning, police say.

While hundreds of runners are making their way to and through Wellesley today, one home on the edge of town had an almost explosive awakening.

At about 8:30 a.m., Boston.com reports a Landscaping team working at 53 Falmouth Road discovered a hand grendade on the property. First responders realized the device was hollow and inert, Wellesley Police Lt. Marie Cleary told the Globe, so they canceled a bomb squad request.

Late last July, a live grenade was found and destroyed in Needham.

In 2010, when a homeowner discovered what looked like a stick of dynamite, she called it in to police. Then, Lt. Cleary said that calling it in was the right thing to do.
