Wellesley Police Log: Inspections, Signals and a Detail Crash

The following reports were provided by the Wellesley Police Department. Charges where mentioned do not indicate a conviction. 

Remember Your Annual Inspection

While on Center Street at about 6 p.m. March 4, Officer Chris Cunningham reported seeing a white van passing. After querying the plate, he learned the vehicle had no valid inspection sticker. He pulled the vehicle over and asked for the license and registration.

The driver reported he had no license, and gave police his passport and the registration for the vehicle. A records check determined that the driver, identified as Venicio Pereira, 25, of Framingham did not have a valid Mass. license. He was arrested and charged with driving without a license, and driving without an inspection sticker. He was later released on personal recognizance. 

Use Your Blinkers

11:15 a.m., March 5, while Officer Mendez was on Worcester Street near Kingsbury Street. He saw a grey van turn onto Kignsbury Street without using its turning signal. When he pulled the vehicle over, the driver said she had no license and handed her passport and the registration over.

A records check determined that she had no valid Mass. license. Gisela Dora Salazar Mendez, Milford woman aged 36, was arrested and charged with driving without a license and failing to signal. She was booked, then transported to Dedham District Court.

Don't Drink and Drive, Especially into a Police Cruiser

On March 6, at about 3 p.m., as a police cruiser was overseeing a detail on Route 9 Eastbound with a National Grid crew. The officer and cruiser were behind a cone cordon on the work site, when another vehicle drove into the cordoned-off area and into the police cruiser. 

Both the driver and the officer were transported to Newton-Wellesley Hospital. The officer was evaluated and did not sustain any life-threatening injuries. 

(fourth offense), driving with a suspended license (subsequent offense), operating to endanger, a marked lanes violation, possession of an open container of alcohol in a vehicle and a seatbelt violation, according to Wellesley Police Lt. Marie Cleary. He also faces warrant charges out of the Boston District Court for assault and battery on a public employee.

Protective Custody

At about 1:05 a.m. on March 7, officer Renzella brought a 25-year-old man and a 54-year-old man into protective custody from Wellesley Avenue.
