Wellesley Teen Wins US Junior Amateur Golf Title

The win qualifies Michael Thorbjornsen​ for the 2018 US Amateur and the 2019 US Open at Pebble Beach.​

A Wellesley teen is a national champion following a big win in New Jersey last weekend.

Michael Thorbjornsen scored a one-up win over Akshay Bhatia in the 36-hole final of the US Junior Amateur at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J.

It took 32 holes for Thorbjornsen to take the lead, according to the USGA's recap of the final. But once he got it, he was able to hold on for the final holes and win the match.
