Why I'm Running the Boston Marathon: Carol Chaoui
Watch for this Wellesley resident dressed as Wonder Woman.
WELLESLEY, MA – It's a bird, it's a plane, it's – Carol Chaoui! The Wellesley resident will run this year's Boston Marathon dressed as Wonder Woman, but she's doing more than just looking the part of a superhero.
Chaoui, who lives with metastatic breast cancer and thyroid cancer, will run to raise funds for metastatic breast cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. According to Chaoui, more than 113 patients die each day from the incurable form of breast cancer.
"There is no end to treatments when you have MBC," Chaoui wrote in an email."I follow a daily targeted medication regime and go in once a month for injections and infusions, followed by scans every 3 months to determine if the disease is stable or progressing."
