"Communication and Execution" Key WHS Volleyball
Westborough now will host Tantasqua at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The winner advances to the semi-finals against the winner of Monday night's quarterfinal between Groton-Dunstable and Medfield.
"Communication and execution" helped the Westborough High School varsity volleyball team advance on Sunday to its Sectionals quarterfinals, head coach Roger Anderson said.
The Rangers defeated visiting Milton, 3-0, in a 2013 Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Girls Volleyball Central Division 2 first round game here Sunday.
Westborough now will host Tantasqua at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The winner advances to the semi-finals against the winner of Monday night's quarterfinal between Groton-Dunstable and Medfield.
Sunday, the Rangers "just wanted to come in and work hard. And I think we did that," Anderson said.
"That was our goal. We take every opponent very seriously," he said.
Westborough (16-2 regular season) is seeded second in the 15-team tournament. Milton (7-13) is seeded 15th.
Tantasqua (13-5) is seeded seventh. Tantasqua defeated visiting St. Peter-Marian, 3-0, in a first round game Saturday night, according to the tournament bracket. St. Peter-Marian (11-7) is the 10th seed.
Westborough didn't face Tantasqua this fall, Anderson said.
"We know they're a pretty good team because they've already won a tournament game," he said.
"We'll expect them to bring their best. And we'll do the same."
